The 2005 Awards Ceremony

Point System? For the awards of 2005, the community decided to implement a point system. Opinions were split, some liked the idea, others didn't. Opinions were further split when we asked exactly how we would use the point system. Would all the nominations carry an equal amount of points? Or would there be a scale of points, where the first one is worth more than the others? After a little debating, we decided on the latter. Nominations were sent through PM (to me, DanielJr), your first choice would be worth 3 points, the second 2 points, and the last 1 point.

The problem? Well, apparently some folks only sent in their first choice, heavily skewing results at some points, as you'll see which anime won the coveted "anime of the year". I should've declined these votes, but there was such a lack of participation that I felt more inclined to count them.

After I posted the winners thread, there was a huge amount of whining, particularly over the "anime of the year" prize. I admit I got a little angry. If people didn't want to vote, well that's their problem. But don't whine and expect your choices to get through if you didn't participate, it's common sense. After I cooled down, I decided to look into things and it's exactly what I was trying to say before. People sending in single votes skewed the results. If these people had, for example, voted their second or third nominations to GitS or Gungrave, I'm pretty sure one of those two would've gotten it. You can check out my tally if you're curious.

Anyways, that's all for the introduction of these awards. Check them out!
